Marrying British style and craftsmanship
HRH The Prince of Wales visits The Cambridge Satchel Company
The Cambridge Satchel Company was honoured to host Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall this afternoon on a visit to their factory in Syston, Leicestershire. The Cambridge Satchel’s iconic bags celebrate British heritage and designs from the past. The occasion was commemorated by the unveiling of a plaque, signing of the visitors' book and presentation of gifts from The Cambridge Satchel Company.
Founder and CEO of the company, Julie Deane OBE, introduced staff involved in the design and manufacturing process, explaining each stage of the making process – closely following the journey of the bag from a single piece of leather hide to a finished satchel. During the visit, HRH was also able to view the production process of a special collection of bags made in support of The Prince’s Foundation. HRH embossed one of the bags using a vintage blocking and embossing press, which took the form of The Prince’s Foundation emblem.
“This very special visit shines a spotlight on British style and craftsmanship. We are proud to continue to champion artisanal leather techniques – something we know HRH The Prince of Wales in a passionate advocate of.”

This exclusive collection of bags will launch in all of The Cambridge Satchel Company stores and website from the 2nd March. 20% of the RRP of each bag sold will be donated to the Foundation to continue to HRH’s ambition of creating harmonious communities through education, practice and places.
