Education

Outdoor and Resilence Building

Nature based learning is the focus for all programmes based at Dumfries House which brings proven benefits for the individual with improved wellbeing and confidence.

The opportunity to explore the estate and take part in activity linked to improving an understanding of nature, its systems and our place within it ensures that those who take part in an activity or residential stay are able to connect better to their surroundings and others.

About

Our focus for all education programmes is on learning from nature and this is fully embedded in the programmes delivered by the team either through residential stays and day visits. Workshops and activities are delivered outdoors over our 2000 acre estate and are designed to challenge the individual, build confidence and team work and develop an appreciation of nature and the world around us. Our programmes link to UN Sustainability Goals and Harmony principles combining a holistic approach with an understanding of our individual and collective input.

The primary function of the Tamar Manoukian Outdoor Centre is to provide youth, charity and school groups with affordable residential accommodation which will allow access to a comprehensive range of activities throughout the estate. Flexible options are provided to group leaders and organisers to match their specific needs for programmes (led and delivered by our staff), from two nights to a week, or longer if required.

Activities range from bush craft and shelter building to climbing wall experiences as well as opportunities for cross curriculum or subject specific study visits in music, science, rural skills, art and textiles. We regularly offer an instructor led 5k training run for the community.
